  • Fact Check: This hilarious courtroom exchange during Kejriwal's hearing DID NOT take place at all! Leaked footage of the courtroom hearing corroborates the absence of the viral exchange between Kejriwal and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check There is no evidence of the purported exchange taking place during CM Kejriwal’s March 28 court appearance. Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s remand in the liquor policy case has been extended to April 1 following his appearance in Delhi’s Rouse Avenue court on March 28. Kejriwal, in person, opposed the Enforcement Directorate’s request for further custody and called the alleged scam a political ploy against the Aam Aadmi Party. Since then, several excerpts of a heated courtroom exchange between Kejriwal and the ED’s lawyers have surfaced on social media. One such exchange purportedly between Kejriwal and Additional Solicitor General SV Raju was widely shared, where Kejriwal took a dig at the evidence presented by the domestic law enforcement agency. The exchange in question went as follows: "Arvind Kejriwal in court: Why have you arrested me? ASG Raju: We have a statement against you. Kejriwal: So if I say I gave 100 crores to Modi and Amit Shah, will you go and arrest them based on my statement? Judge and ASG both went quiet." India Today Fact Check found that the purported exchange never happened. Our Probe A keyword search yielded no news reports from credible sources about the hearing that confirmed the viral exchange happened. LiveLaw and Bar & Bench, two legal news outlets known for in-depth live courtroom updates, did not report such an exchange. We then came across journalist Tanishka Sodhi’s post on X, who was present in the courtroom during the proceeding, refuting the viral claim, stating it did not occur. She wrote, “Several accounts have tweeted this exchange & it has gone viral. But as someone who was in court, along with a dozen other reporters, can confirm that it certainly did not happen. Please stop RTing fake news!” India Today’s legal reporter Kanu Sarda, who was also present in the court during the hearing, confirmed that the viral exchange was fake. Sarda said that no such statement was made by Kejriwal referencing Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah. Additionally, leaked footage of Kejriwal's courtroom testimony as reported by Mojo Story further verified the absence of such a statement. No statement made by the Delhi CM resembled the viral exchange. Thus, it’s more than clear that the viral exchange between Delhi CM Kejriwal and ASG Raju did not occur at all.
