Vishvas News (Guwahati) – Amid many fake posts about Tokyo Olympics, a post is viral on social media where a girl can be seen sitting in the middle of the farm. The post is claiming that this woman is Olympic Medallist Lovlina Borgohain. We found in our investigation that this claim is false. The woman in the viral picture isn’t Olympic Bronze Medallist Lovlina Borgohain.

Social Media user Ravi Kant Singh posted this viral photo and wrote – Lovlina Borgohain… in Tokyo & at home!

Investigation
Vishwas News checked the viral post with the Google Reverse Image tool. While searching for the viral picture, we saw a post on Facebook by a woman named Deepika Konwar. In the post she wrote – “অতি দুখিত হৈ আপোনালোক সকলোকে অবগত কৰাব লগা হৈছে যে যোৱা ২১জুলাইৰ দিনা মই এটা কবিতা (পথাৰত যৌৱন) তলত দিয়া ফটো খনৰ সৈতে প্ৰকাশ কৰিছিলোঁ৷ যোৱা দুদিনমানৰ পৰা Social mediaত এইখন লাভলীনাৰ ফটো বুলি প্ৰচাৰ হৈ আছে৷ এইখন আচলতে মোৰ ভতিজা ছোৱালীৰ ফটো।” Which translates as – “Very sad to inform you all that on 21st July I published a poem (youth in the field) with the photo below. For the last two days, it has been circulating on Social media as a photo of Lovlina. This is actually a photo of my nephew girl. ” Two leading Assamese newspapers had also published this photo with wrong claim. Below is the clipping of the newspaper.
We then contacted Olympic medallist Lovlina’s Family. They confirm that this photo is not Lovlina’s.
In addition, we also shared this photo with eminent sports journalist Abdul Gani from Assam, he said, “I have a photo of Lovlina working in the paddy field. But this viral photo is not Lovlina’s. The actual photo of Lovlina given to us by journalist Abdul Gani can be seen below.
Twitter user Ravi Kant Singh, who shared this viral photo, is a resident of Delhi and is a ‘broadcast professional’. He has 246 followers.
Conclusion: We found in our investigation that this claim is false. The woman in the viral picture isn’t Olympic Bronze Medallist Lovlina Borgohain.
