This video is not from Tokyo Olympics, but from Taiwan. What is this viral post? Facebook user Deepak Jogi shared the video and wrote, “Fireworks of Inaugural function of Tokyo Olympics.” The Archived version of this post can be viewed here. Investigation To check the viral post, we first watched the opening ceremony of the Tokyo Olympics on the Olympics’ Verified YouTube channel. We did not see this scene anywhere. Yes, there were definitely fireworks during this opening ceremony. But that was completely different from the viral video. According to the description, the video is from Taiwan’s 2021 New Year Celebration. We also got glimpses of this video in a video uploaded on 1 January 2021 on a YouTube channel named Lotnictwo.TV . According to the description written with this video, the video is also of Taiwan’s 2021 New Year Celebration. We also found this video embedded in a news report on taiwannews.com.tw. The thumb image of the screenshot of this video has also been used in the news. According to the news also, the video is of the 2021 New Year Celebration of Taiwan. We also contacted Chris Chang, the chief reporter who wrote the news for Taiwan News, regarding this matter. In response to the mail, he said that the video is from Taiwan’s 2021 New Year celebration. We scanned the account of Bhavesh Dave, who shared this viral video.
