OUR PROBE
A reverse image search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a Facebook post dated August 26, 2022, which contained this video. According to the post, the police on the night of August 24, 2022, barged into several homes and dragged out Muslim youth in and around the Shalibanda area in Hyderabad after protests against suspended Bharatiya Janata Party MLA T Raja Singh swelled following derogatory remarks on Prophet Muhammad.
In August 2022, Singh was suspended by the BJP and arrested by the state police for allegedly delivering derogatory remarks against Prophet Muhammad in a video posted on social media. This came two months after the BJP suspended its national spokesperson Nupur Sharma and expelled its Delhi leader Naveen Kumar Jindal for their remarks on the Prophet. Then, in October 2023, the BJP revoked his suspension.
According to a report by The Siasat Daily, Singh’s immediate release on bail on August 23, 2022, enraged many and despite several warnings by the Hyderabad police to stay indoors, angry Muslim youth took to the streets to protest. This led to the arrests.
In the viral video, a police vehicle with a license plate beginning with “TS 09” could be seen parked on the road. Motor vehicles registered in Telangana start with “TS”, and “TS 09” is the RTO code of Hyderabad.
Thus, it is more than clear to say that this video has nothing to do with the recent communal violence in Thane’s Mira Road.
