  • FACT CHECK: Israeli Soldier’s Comments About Gaza Civilians Is Taken Out Of Context A video shared on social media purportedly shows an Israeli soldier explaining that he is not just at war with Hamas, but also the civilians in Gaza. 🚨BREAKING: Israeli Army Officer’s Alarming Statements on CNN Betzalel Taljah, an Israeli army officer says live on CNN: “The war is not just with Hamas but with all the CIVILIANS that cannot see us as human beings that want to kill us.” Source: CNN Live pic.twitter.com/qA574g5a2D — Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) October 16, 2023 Verdict: Misleading The quote was taken out of context. Fact Check: President Joe Biden visited Tel Aviv on Wednesday to show his solidarity with Israel, according to the Associated Press. Biden also secured Israeli permission to bring humanitarian aid to Gaza through Egypt. The Twitter post shows a clip from an interview with Israeli Defense Force commander Betzalel Talijah to CNN. The short clip shows Talijah saying, “The war is not just with Hamas but with all the CIVILIANS that cannot see us as human beings that want to kill us.” This quote is out of context. The full context of the quote shows a different view of what he was saying. Talijah explained that some Gaza civilians entered Israel to attack their citizens during the Hamas incursion. His full statement is, “The war is not just with Hamas but with all the civilians that cannot see us as human beings that want to kill us because what I saw from Gaza, civilians from Gaza, came on bicycles, to the kibbutz, just to kill and destroy.” Betzalel Talijah, an Israeli soldier attempting to bring his 63-year-old mother to safety as the attack broke out, found her body in the street of her kibbutz during the Hamas attack. She was “full of bullets from head to toe.” pic.twitter.com/Qo5XM5zRi9 — Abby D. Phillip (@abbydphillip) October 11, 2023 He claimed that many Palestinians who were not members of the Hamas military entered the city and used the opportunity to attack Israelis. (RELATED: Video Of Pakistani Air Force Is Old) This is not the first piece of misinformation surrounding the Israeli-Hamas conflict that has been shared online. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that Presidential candidate Nikki Haley has called for the U.S. to take in refugees from Gaza. Note: Check Your Fact is working to debunk false and misleading claims from the recent event. Please send tips to [email protected].
