Users are claiming that former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Rupani himself removed the red light from his car recently. Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be misleading. In 2017, Vijay Rupani removed the light from his car when he was the Chief Minister. The video is going viral as recent. Claim Facebook user Chandrakar Sanju uploaded a video of Vijay Rupani on September 13, claiming: “Former Chief Minister of Gujarat Vijay Rupani ji himself removed the red light from his car. Such scenes make democracy great.” The archived version of this post can be viewed here. Investigation Vishvas News searched the claim through Google search using appropriate keywords. We came across several reports which stated that Vijay Rupani had himself removed the red light from his car welcoming the Prime Minister’s decision. We also found this news on the website of Jagran.com. It was published on April 20, 2017. The complete report can be read here. During the investigation, we also found the original video on Vijay Rupani’s Twitter handle. It was uploaded on April 20, 2017. We also found this video on a YouTube channel named Desh Gujarat. It was uploaded on April 20, 2017. It can be clearly seen that Vijay Rupani is removing the red light from his car. Vishvas News contacted Shatrughan Sharma, Senior Correspondent of Dainik Jagran, Gujarat. He said that the viral video of Vijay Rupani is about four years old. At that time, when he was the Chief Minister, he had removed the red light from his car. We scanned the profile of the Facebook user Chandrakar Sanju who shared the viral post. We found that the user is followed by 2825 people on Facebook. Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be misleading.
