  • Fact Check: Do not believe videos of jets bombing Paris! Ukraine govt made this CGI clip in 2022 This video was Ukraine's message to its allies, showing what the future might hold unless they declared the war-torn country a no-fly zone. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This CGI video was created by the Defence Ministry of Ukraine in March 2022. Amid violent protests across France, a video of fighter jets bombing Paris, including near the Eiffel Tower, was shared by many social media users. "Can you believe it? Paris is dying," read a tweet sharing the video. India Today, however, found that the video does not show a real incident. It was created using CGI by the Ukraine government. Our Probe A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a news article on a Korean website. The article featured snapshots from the viral clip. Published on March 13, 2022, the reported said that the video’s source was Ukraine's Defence Ministry. A subsequent keyword search led us to a Forbes article from March 17, 2022, titled, "Ukraine’s Promotion Of Fake Paris Bombing Video Highlights Risks Of Misinformation." It noted that the footage was “being disseminated on social media by the Ukrainian government and local news outlets to send the message that what’s happening in their home country could come to pass in other democracies, and to urge the closing of airspace over Ukraine.” Reportedly, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy pushed allies to impose a no-fly zone over the country to prevent Russian air attacks. NATO member countries, however, rejected Ukraine's request fearing an escalation of the war. Reports from Newsweek and NewsHub also confirmed that the videos were created with CGI. Al Jazeera uploaded the video to its YouTube channel. The official Twitter account of Ukraine's Defence Ministry shared the video on March 12, 2022, writing, "If we fall, you fall." It also appealed to NATO to close its airspace. Thus, it is clear that a year-old CGI clip created by the Ukraine government was falsely shared as real events in Paris.
