Fact Check
The Rumor Scanner team’s investigation revealed that the video does not depict Muslims in Bangladesh attacking Hindu temples or vandalizing idols. In fact, the video is not from Bangladesh at all. It was filmed in Sultanpur village, Khandaghosh, in the Purba Bardhaman district of India, and shows an idol immersion scene.
During the investigation, a post dated November 30 by an Indian Facebook account named Raghu Sathi was identified, containing visuals that match the viral video.
The post featured the hashtag #SultanpurKalimataNiranjan. Following this, another Instagram post from the account dey_raghu, also dated November 30, was discovered. This post clarified that the video depicts the Kalimata Niranjan ritual, a tradition observed every 12 years in Sultanpur.
Further investigation uncovered a Facebook page titled Sultanpur Kiranmoyee Library (link), which documented an event named “12-Year Traditional Kalimata Niranjan 2024,” organized on November 25 by the Kiranmoyee Library and the villagers of Sultanpur, Khandaghosh, Purba Bardhaman district, India (Archived post).
Additionally, an Indian local media page, Palli Damodar (link), published a video report confirming that the Kalimata Niranjan ritual takes place every 12 years at Sultanpur’s Mondalbari.
Conclusion
The video showing an idol immersion ceremony in Sultanpur, Khandaghosh, India, has been falsely portrayed as an attack by Muslims on Hindu temples in Bangladesh. This claim is completely false.
