| - A video featuring a girl, covered in blood, is circulating on social media, alleging that it is from Bangladesh.
Those sharing have noted that it shows the plight of Hindu women under the interim government and its Chief Advisor Muhammad Yunus.
(Archives of similar claims can be found here and here.)
Is the claim true?: No, the claim is false. The incident is from Joynagar, West Bengal in India. Local police in the area confirmed the same to The Quint.
What we found: We divided the video into multiple keyframes and ran a Google reverse image search on some of them.
We came across the same video on Facebook. However, a user commented under the post stating that the video was from India and not Bangladesh.
The same results led us to another video on Facebook which stated that a woman was killed in Joynagar, West Bengal.
We searched on Google about the same and came across a video report by a YouTube channel of news outlet Vision 18 Bangla.
It carried the same visuals as the viral video. However, they were blurred.
It stated that an unidentified woman was found, covered in blood in the Bakultala police station area which comes under Joynagar.
Other news outlets such as Zee News also covered the incident. The report stated that an e-rickshaw driver found the woman in the condition on a road next to an empty paddy field.
Another report by the Hindustan Times stated that the police suspected two people who were spotted on a CCTV camera on a motorcycle as the accused.
Police comments: We reached out to Pradip Roy, officer in-charge of the Bakultala police station who confirmed to The Quint that the incident was from Joynagar in West Bengal and there was no communal angle, as claimed.
Conclusion: The viral video is not from Bangladesh but West Bengal, India.
