This incident is from Delhi and it took place on August 30, 2019. While one of the men arrested in this incident was identified as Abdul Shamshad, the other accused was Vikas Jain.
Amid Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations on April 22, a video of two thieves attempting to snatch a chain, getting caught, and ultimately getting beaten up by a mob was widely shared online. Those sharing the video claimed this allegedly recent incident took place in Jaipur, Rajasthan, and the thieves were Muslim.
On social media, the video was shared with texts like: "Abdul was preparing for Eid.... in Jaipur. Today's incident." Often on social media, the name “Abdul” is used as a euphemism for Muslim men by the Hindu right. An archived version of such posts can be seen here.

Our Probe
Upon reverse-searching keyframes from the viral video, we came across an ABP News report published on September 03, 2019, featuring a frame from the clip.
According to the report, this incident happened in the streets of Delhi's Nangloi area on August 30 that year. The article included a statement from the police that confirmed that both snatchers were arrested.
We also found an ANI tweet featuring the same video shared on September 03, 2019. The caption of the tweet read, "Bike-borne chain-snatchers caught red-handed by a woman and her daughter in Nangloi, Delhi on August 30. The chain-snatchers were later arrested by police."
Subsequently, we searched for the names of the accused men, and it led us to news reports by NDTV ( https://bit.ly/3mUFSnq ) and The Times Of India. Published on September 4, 2019, both carried the names of the accused.
While it's true that one of the men arrested in this incident was Muslim — identified as Abdul Shamshad, 32 — the name of the other accused was Vikas Jain (38).
Therefore, we concluded that an old chain-snatching video was shared with misinformation and a communal spin.
