Did Amitabh Bachchan snub fellow actor Boman Irani during a recent event? A video making the rounds online purports to show Big B ignoring Irani as he extended his hand for a shake.
The clip shows Irani standing in a stadium right in front of Bachchan with his hand out. Bachchan, however, moves ahead to shake hands with Sachin Tendulkar. After this, he could be seen hugging other actors present at the event, namely Akshay Kumar, Ram Charan, and Suriya, and even turning around to look at dancers performing in the stadium.
One person shared this video on Facebook, writing, “Amitabh Bachchan ignored Boman Irani. During an event, Boman Irani looked super excited to meet Amitabh Bachchan, but the superstar did not radiate the same vibe. As Boman waited with his hand out for a handshake, he was ignored in public.” Many in the comments, called out Bachchan for this.
India Today Fact Check found that the video was edited. In the full video, Bachchan shook Irani’s hand and spoke with him afterwards.
OUR PROBE
In the viral video, we noticed “ISPL” written at the boundary of the stadium. Using this clue, we found the full video of this event, uploaded to YouTube on March 6. According to its description, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Ram Charan, and Suriya were present at an ISPL cricket match.
Per news reports, the Indian Street Premier League is a T10 tennis ball cricket tournament that was inaugurated on March 6 at the Dadoji Kondadev Stadium in Thane, Maharashtra. There are six teams in this league, all owned by Bollywood actors.
In the full video, Amitabh Bachchan, around the 47-second mark, entered and hugged Akshay Kumar, who then asked him to turn around and look at the people performing. After that, he greeted Akshay Kumar, Ram Charan, and Suriya.
Following this, Boman Irani extended his hand to greet Bachchan, who shook Sachin Tendulkar’s hand instead. But, within a few seconds, Bachchan shook Irani’s hand and hugged him. After that, Irani also interviewed Bachchan about his ISPL Team, “Majhi Mumbai”.
We also found an ANI report about this event. According to it, the inaugural edition of the Indian Street Premier League kicked off with a star-studded opening ceremony in the presence of Sachin Tendulkar, Amitabh Bachchan, Akshay Kumar, Saif Ali Khan, Kareena Kapoor-Khan, Suriya, and Ram Charan, who are also team owners. The six teams are Majhi Mumbai, Srinagar ke Veer, Chennai Singams, Tigers of Kolkata, Falcon Risers Hyderabad, and Bangalore Strikers.
We also found photos and videos of the inaugural ceremony, featuring these celebrities, on the Instagram page of ISPL T10.
It is thus, clear that an edited video was shared to claim that Amitabh Bachchan ignored Boman Irani at an event.
