  • Fact Check: Majestic fireworks video from Kuwait FALSELY shared as of India's victory over Australia India Today Fact Check found that this video shows fireworks celebrations during the opening ceremony of a Football Championship in Kuwait Listen to Story India registered a nail-biting win over Australia in the Champions Trophy’s first semifinal held in Dubai, securing a four-wicket win to reach the final. Now, a video, making the rounds on the internet, shows spectacular fireworks celebrations in Dubai International Cricket Stadium after India’s win against Australia. Sharing this video, a Facebook user wrote, “India’s explosive victory sparks sky above Dubai into the parade of color. The Dubai International Cricket Stadium erupted in celebration as fireworks lit up the night sky following India’s 4-wicket victory over Australia in the ICC Champions Trophy 2025 semifinal.” Its archive can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that this video shows fireworks celebrations during the opening ceremony of a Football Championship in Kuwait. OUR PROBE In the viral post, several people claim that the fireworks video does not show Dubai International Cricket Stadium but Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, a Football stadium, in Kuwait. A reverse search of screengrabs from the viral video led us to a December 22, 2024, Instagram post containing the viral video with the hashtag Kuwait. This means the viral video predates the India vs Australia Semi-Final match. We found a video similar to the viral one in which the same stadium and fireworks celebrations pattern can be seen. In this December 22, 2024 post, it is written that the video shows Jaber Al-Ahmed Stadium in Kuwait during the opening celebrations of the Gulf Cup. When we compared the stadium in the viral video with Kuwait’s Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium, we found that both stadiums are the same proving that the viral video is not from Dubai but from Kuwait. We found several media reports from December 2024 in which it was written that the fireworks can be seen during the opening ceremony of the Arabian Gulf Cup Football Championship in Jaber Al-Ahmad International Stadium during the 26th edition of the Arabian Gulf Cup football championship on December 21, 2024, at the Jaber Al Ahmad International Stadium in Kuwait City. According to the Qatar Tribune report, the ceremony merged traditional Gulf folk arts with modern technology. It further said that at the end of the ceremony, a spectacular fireworks celebration was held, which mesmerized the audience. Also, we did not find any credible media report that mentioned that there were any fireworks at the Dubai International Stadium after India's win. Thus, the video of fireworks celebrations during the opening ceremony of a Football Championship in Kuwait was falsely shared as from the India vs Australia Semi-Final match.
