Several buildings on the Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) campus were defaced last week with anti-Brahmin slogans. Pictures of the graffiti were widely shared on social media. Soon after, a picture of a man wearing a saree was in circulation claiming that he is the person behind the anti-brahmin protest at the university. Twitter users captioned the images as, "This is the person from Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University who has problems with Brahmins and Baniyas." FACT CHECK: The fact check team performed a reverse image search and found several websites that identified the man in the picture as Indian blogger Pushpak Sen. (View here) Based on his interview with The Telegraph and CT, it can be understood that Pushpak Sen is a fashion icon. He is popularly known as The Bong Munda and made headlines when he saree, earlier this year. The fact check team found the same viral pictures on Sen's account. The first picture was uploaded on May 22, 2022, and was taken at the Great Eastern Lalit Hotel in Kolkata. The second picture was uploaded on December 11, 2021 with the caption, "Master in Fashion Communication and Marketing. @polimodafirenze Class of 2021." According to his Linkedin profile, Sen is in no way associated with JNU. He holds a masters degree in Fashion Marketing and Communication and currently works as a celebrity styling and influencer marketing manager. We also reached out to Pushpak Sen for further confirmation. The fact check will be updated when he responds. Clearly, the man in the viral pictures is not the face behind the anti-brahmin protest at JNU. The claim is false.
