| - An image of an airport is doing the rounds on social media platforms with a claim that it shows a recent visual of the new airport built in Uttar Pradesh.
What does the viral post say?: An X (formerly Twitter) premium subscriber shared the image with a caption that loosely translated to, "Uttar Pradesh created history, becoming the first state in India to have 21 airports."
What is the truth?: The viral claim is misleading. The image actually shows the iGA Istanbul airport in Türkiye and has no connection to India.
How did we find that out?: Using the help of Google Lens, we performed a reverse image search and found the same visual published in a report by Conde Nast Traveler.
Its headline suggested that the image depicted the iGA Istanbul Airport in Türkiye, which was named as the "world's best international hub".
We also found similar visuals of the airport published on the official X handle of iGA Istanbul Airport.
The video was posted on 21 December 2023.
Both these findings clearly indicate that the viral image is from Türkiye and has no related to India.
About the number of airports in UP: Team WebQoof conducted a keyword search on Google and found an answer that was given in the Rajya Sabha on 20 March 2023.
It said that the total number of airports in Uttar Pradesh was 19, including the proposed Noida International Airport.
Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, while speaking in the state assembly in February 2024, had highlighted the growth the state had witnessed in different areas.
He further said that Uttar Pradesh will become the first state in the country to have 21 airports (16 domestic, 5 international).
An Indian Express report published in March 2024 had said that the total number of operation airports in UP was 15, which was the highest for any state in the country.
The official X handle of Invest UP, too, mentioned that the state is adding five more airports. This will raise the tally of total airports to 21.
Conclusion: It is evident that the image seen in the viral claim is old and has no relation to India.
