Quick Take
A social media post claims that COVID-19 antibodies turn breast milk green. We fact checked and found this claim to be False.
The Claim
A social media post shows a screenshot of another post with an image of two bags purportedly holding breast milk. One is white and the other is green with “COVID-19+” written on it.
The caption reads “What your witnessing here is baby letting Mamas body know that they were sick and Mamas body responding with antibodies.”
Fact Check
Can breast milk change its colour?
Yes. Breast milk can be of different colours, depending on what you eat, and depending on if you’re taking any medicines. Foods such as spinach, Gatorade and multivitamins can give breast milk a green-tinted shade. Iron supplements might also turn the breast milk green.
According to the CDC, breast milk produced early in the pregnancy or just after childbirth can sometimes have a “deep yellow colour” because it has a lot of nutrients.
Can COVID-19 antibodies turn breastmilk green?
No. There is no scientific evidence which shows that COVID-19 antibodies react with breast milk. It is also normal for breast milk to change colour slightly depending on what a parent consumes. So, antibodies don’t cause breast milk or any other fluid to turn a specific colour. Therefore, the claim is false.
A self-publishing website named Substack, in one of their posts, claims that at least 6 babies have been reported DEAD after drinking their vaccinated mothers’ breast milk.
