  • Fact Check: Did Maxwell touch Sachin's feet? Viral pic is photoshopped India Today, in its investigation, found that Tendulkar was not present at the stadium during the match between Afghanistan and Australia. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The viral picture is photoshopped. Two different images were clubbed together to make it look like Maxwell touched Sachin’s feet. On November 7, the Australian Cricket team chased a target of 292 runs against Afghanistan at Mumbai’s Wankhede stadium. Aussies lost seven wickets in quick succession but Glenn Maxwell's unbeaten double-century led the team to defeat Afghanistan by three wickets in the ongoing ICC World Cup. Following Maxwell’s heroic double century, a picture of him bowing down in front of former Indian cricketer and batting legend Sachin Tendulkar was widely shared on social media. Sharing this photo, a Facebook user wrote, “When Sachin Tendulkar came to congratulate Maxwell yesterday on the ground, the great Maxwell bowed down and touched the feet of the legend, Sachin Tendulkar and asked for blessings. One of the greatest moments in the history of cricket. Salute to these great cricketers.” India Today Fact Check found that this picture was photoshopped. Two different images were clubbed together to make it look like Maxwell touched Sachin’s feet. Our Probe With the help of a keyword search, we found a photo of Sachin Tendulkar clicked with the Afghanistan cricket team at Wankhede Stadium a day before their match with the Aussies in Mumbai, India. In this photo, Sachin was in the same T-shirt that he was seen wearing in the viral picture. We then found the original picture featuring only Sachin and not Maxwell at Getty Images. As per information on the website, on November 6, Sachin spoke to members of the Afghanistan cricket team prior to a training session. We compared both photos and found many similarities between them. Further, according to journalists from SportsTak, Sachin Tendulkar was not present at the Wankhede Stadium during the Afghanistan versus Australia. However, he did congratulate Maxwell after his double-century. We could not find the source of Maxwell's bowed-down photo. In conclusion, the viral photo of Maxwell bowing down to touch Sachin Tendulkar’s feet is photoshopped. Sachin was not present at the stadium during the match.
