  • Fact Check: Old pep talk of Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard FALSELY shared as from match with Argentina An old video of Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard giving a pep-talk to his team was falsely shared as a clip from the team's match with Argentina. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check The video was not from Saudi's match with Argentina and not even linked to the Qatar World Cup 2022 main event. This video was shot on March 30, 2022, during Saudi Arabia's World Cup qualification match with Australia. Lionel Messi and his team faced a shameful defeat against Saudi Arabia in the first match of the Qatar World Cup 2022 on November 22, 2022. Saudi Arabia coach Herve Renard’s halftime pep talk to his team made headlines after the match. In the first half, his side was down 1-0. In the second half, Saudi pushed back to shock Lionel Messi’s band by scoring twice. This was possibly one of the greatest upsets in World Cup history. Meanwhile, people have shared Herve Renard's pep talk visual in monochrome and claimed that it was from the Argentina match. While sharing this 11-second clip many wrote on social media, "Herve Renard’s first half team talk was the reason Saudi Arabia went to war with Argentina in the second half. 'Respect the fans! 60,000! It was a friendly game first half!'" Others also shared the same video. AFWA's investigation, however, found that this pep talk video was not from the match with Argentina and it is not even linked to the Qatar World Cup 2022's main event. This video was shot on March 30, 2022, during Saudi Arabia's World Cup qualification match with Australia. AFWA Probe A random keyword search led us to the official Facebook page of the Saudi Arabian Football Federation. We found the same three-second clip on that page. As per the news report, on March 30, 2022, Saudi Arabia defeated Australia in the World Cup qualification match and secured their place in the Qatar World Cup 2022. After that match, on April 1, 2022, the clip was uploaded to the official page. We found another clip that lasts almost 10 minutes on the official Twitter account of the Saudi Arabia National Football Team. After that, we tried to match the viral clip with the original one and spotted the difference. Thus, we conclude that the viral video is not from FIFA World Cup 2022 in Qatar.
