The viral video is about 2 years old from Panama. It has nothing to do with the Iran President’s helicopter crash.
Iran's President Ebrahim Raisi, Foreign Minister Hossein Amirabdollahian, and several other officials were found dead in a helicopter crash on May 19 in Iran’s East Azerbaijan province. Now a video of a helicopter crash is going viral on social media. Those sharing this video are saying that it is of Iran's President's helicopter crash.
Sharing this video, an X user wrote, “Helicopter crash: Accident or conspiracy... A live video of the CCTV camera surfaced. A viral video on social media purports to be of the helicopter of Iran President Ibrahim Raisi.. in which it is claimed that the pilot could not control the helicopter and 9 people lost their lives in the accident.” Its archive can be seen here.
India Today Fact Check found that this video is from Panama and has been online since 2022.
OUR PROBE
Upon reverse-searching the viral clip's keyframes, we found the same video uploaded on YouTube on August 22, 2022. As per the video's title, this helicopter crash incident is from the South American country Panama. This makes it clear that the video is not recent.
We searched using keywords and found a video report of 9 News Australia that contains the viral video. As per the video report, this incident happened in Panama's jungles in August 2022. There were 6 people on board the helicopter at the time of the crash, including a Panama politician, Dmitri Flores. They were all rescued alive but suffered injuries.
We also found several media reports published in August 2022 on this incident. As per reports, after the helicopter crash in the jungle, Dmitri Flores posted a video on social media in which he was seen asking for help from the authorities.
Thus, it’s more than clear that a 2-year-old video from Panama is being falsely shared as Ibrahim Rasi's helicopter crash.
