This video is edited and has been made by stitching together different portions of Gandhi’s speech from February, 2020.
Did Rahul Gandhi blame Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the unemployment of eagles? Sounds bizarre, right? But if a video circulating online is to be believed, Gandhi said something like that during a speech.
He said in the viral clip, “Why are these eagles flying here? What are the eagles doing here? Can anyone explain why these eagles are roaming here? For the last five years, they have been unemployed. And Narendra Modi is the reason behind it.”
AFWA found that the video is doctored and was made by stitching together different portions of Gandhi’s speech from February 2020.
AFWA Probe
We reverse-searched frames from the viral video and found a video on Rahul Gandhi’s official YouTube channel. The video titled “Rahul Gandhi addresses public meeting in Kondli, Delhi” was uploaded on February 5, 2020.
Rahul Gandhi talking about Eagles
The first part of the video where Gandhi was talking about eagles can be seen ten minutes and four seconds into the video. Here, Gandhi said, “Why are these eagles flying here? What are the eagles doing here? Can anyone explain why these eagles are roaming here? This garbage — how many crores do you think will it cost to clean it up? Five crore, ten crore? ... Let’s say it will take 50 crore. Just a few days ago, Narendra Modi waived off Rs. 1,30,000 crore in tax for the richest people in India. While you live in this dump, those people live in castles”
This proves that the eagle question was not followed by the unemployment accusation against the PM.
Unemployment reference
The second part where he mentions unemployment was in reference to the youth of the country. At the three minutes and twenty-nine seconds mark, Gandhi said, “The youth can’t understand that they have been studying for so many years. They went to school, college, university, and also appeared for exams. But for the last five years, they have been unemployed. In any country, if the youth can’t see the road ahead, they will get angry.”
Gandhi said the Narendra Modi bit around two and a half minutes into the video when he was talking about the changing atmosphere in the country.
Per media reports, Gandhi had gone to east Delhi's Kondli on February 5, 2020, to address a rally ahead of the Delhi Assembly polls. Congress failed to secure even one seat in that election.
This video had gone viral in 2020 and 2021 as well, and was debunked by many independent fact-checkers at the time. Thus, we concluded that the viral video is doctored.
