India Today Fact Check
This video is from a pro-Palestine demonstration held in Washington on November 4. The body bags were used to pay homage to the children who have died in Gaza.
In the month since Hamas’ surprise attack on Israel on October 7 and Israel’s subsequent siege of Gaza, social media has witnessed a deluge of disinformation and misinformation campaigns surrounding the conflict. In this report, we will examine and debunk two videos that have been widely shared.
The first is a video that allegedly showed Israeli soldiers assaulting a Palestinian girl. In it, a number of armed and armoured guards can be seen subduing a woman in a crowded area. Those sharing it claimed that the incident occurred in Jerusalem on November 6.
The second video shows the bodies of children wrapped in white shrouds, placed on the roadside along with their photos. The clip was shared with the claim that these were the dead bodies of Palestinians in Gaza’s streets because hospitals there had reached their maximum capacities.
India Today found that both of these videos are misleading. The video of the assault in Jerusalem is more than a year old. The second video features imitation body bags used during a pro-Palestine demonstration in Washington, not actual dead bodies of Gazan children.
Israeli forces attacking Palestinian girl
Through a keyword search, we found the video on Al Jazeera’s YouTube channel, shared on March 1, 2022. Per this report, the footage showed an 11-year-old hearing-impaired Palestinian girl who was hit in the face by a stun grenade fired by Israeli forces. She was part of a gathering in East Jerusalem on February 28, 2022, celebrating a Muslim holiday.
We also found multiple media reports confirming the incident. According to the Times of Israel, the girl, identified as Manwar Burqan, was hospitalised after being struck in the head. She later provided an interview to Eye On Palestine.

Approximately 25 Palestinians sustained injuries during the clashes, as reported by the Palestinian Red Crescent. Israeli Police reported that 20 Palestinians were arrested, and four officers were wounded.
The gathering in the Old City entryway celebrated al-Israa wa al-Miraj, the anniversary of Prophet Mohammed’s journey to Al-Aqsa mosque in Jerusalem.
It is hence clear that while the video shows a Palestinian girl being attacked in Jerusalem, it’s not recent at all.
Palestinian children shrouded in white
We noticed the watermark of the TikTok account “@maryannamustafa711” in the viral clip.
On this TikTok account, we found the same video and others from a demonstration, shared with like hashtags “protest” and “Washington.” Although these videos were uploaded on November 6, one caption indicated that the demonstration took place on November 4.
As per media reports, a pro-Palestine demonstration took place on November 4 in Washington DC’s Freedom Plaza, where demonstrators called for a ceasefire in Gaza.
Further searches led to multiple images from the protest that displayed the same body bags seen in the viral video. The description of an AFP photo from the demonstration clarified that these visuals represented imitation body bags placed as part of the protest at Freedom Plaza in Washington DC on November 4. These body bags symbolically paid homage to the children who had lost their lives during the Israel-Hamas conflict.
A comparison between a screenshot of the viral video and the AFP photo can be seen below.
Hence, it is clear that the video in question does not show the bodies of dead Palestinian children in Gaza.
