  • Fact Check: NOT Muslim migrant attacking woman in Spain, this 2019 video is from China This 2019 video shows a man attacking a woman in China. It has nothing to do with Muslim migrants in Spain. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video has nothing to do with Spain. It shows a 2019 incident in China. A horrific video making the rounds on social media shows a man brutally attacking a woman in the middle of a street. In the clip, the man punches the woman and then attacks her while trying to tear her clothes apart. The clip ends with the man dragging the woman out of the frame by her hair. Allegedly, the man was a Muslim migrant and this incident happened in Spain. One person tweeted the clip writing, “Muslim invader attacking a woman in Spain. Beaten senseless, raped & left for dead. Open borders policies are destroying our European peoples.” Archived versions of such posts can be found here and here. India Today found that this video is from a 2019 incident in China. Our Probe A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a 2019 report that contained a screenshot from the clip. According to it, this incident took place in Dalian, a city in China’s Liaoning province. Quoting the police, it noted that the video was shot past midnight on June 22, 2019. Per reports, the 29-year-old victim was from Panjin in Liaoning and was on her way home when she was beaten up. She reportedly suffered facial soft tissue damage and was discharged from hospital after treatment. The video in question was CCTV footage of the incident captured on Cangshan Road. Another report from June 26, 2019, stated that the suspect was 31-year-old Wang Nan from Dalian. The man reportedly claimed to be agitated because of a relationship dispute with his girlfriend and was drunk when he attacked the woman. The report also carried photos of Nan, which can be seen below. Back in 2022 as well, this video was shared to peddle misleading claims about Muslim migrants in Spain. The video was shared on Twitter by a civil guard who was reportedly sentenced to 15 months in prison for spreading fake news, making it the first of such punishment in Spain.
