| - False: Video shows Israeli attack in Gaza, not on Chinese peacekeepers in Lebanon
They said the attack was “clearly not a bombing by mistake,” and “the warning is obvious” in Chinese. A similar claim was also made on Weibo with the same video in October as well.
However, these claims are false. The video shows a recent Israeli attack in Khan Younis in the Southern Gaza Strip, not in Lebanon.
The viral video on X appears to be flipped horizontally and cropped, but Annie Lab was able to find a version of this video in a higher resolution carrying a watermark “تصویر محمد بن محمود.”
This version was uploaded to Instagram by an account named mohammed.alastal22, on Oct. 11, with a caption that reads, when using Instagram’s auto-translation, “The moment of the Production Bank was bombed in #Khan Younis” in English.
The Instagram user’s profile features a picture of a man. It says he is a photographer. A review of his post on Tiktok (the same user account name) and the story highlights indicates that he is indeed in Gaza.
Annie Lab further confirmed the location of the building to be in Gaza by matching it with a photo on Getty.
The Anadolu Agency of Turkey took this photo after Israeli airstrikes hit Khan Younis on Oct. 11.
Khan Younis, the Gaza Strip’s second-largest urban area, has been the target of Israel’s airstrikes in the ongoing war.
Local Gaza authorities said the death toll of Palestinians caused by Israeli attacks exceeded 15,000 since the Hamas’s surprise offensive on Oct. 7, Anadolu reported.
Meanwhile, China, one of the five permanent United Nations Security Council members, has been active in the UN peacekeeping operations.
As of Sept. 30, the country has deployed 2,275 uniformed personnel. It has over 400 troops based in Lebanon that are part of the UN interim force in Lebanon (UNIFIL).
Reuters reported that on Oct. 15, the interim force’s headquarters in Naqoura, south Lebanon, was hit by a rocket as clashes flared between the Israeli army and Hezbollah on the Lebanon-Israel border.
UNIFIL said there were no reported casualties in a statement. The origin of the rocket is unknown. The statement also urged a cease-fire of all parties and allow the peacekeepers to “help find solutions.”
