Quick Take
A social media post claims that COVID-19 vaccines are poisonous. WE fact-checked and found the claim to be Mostly False. There can be mild effects from the vaccine. But these are mostly temporary. Serious health complications from the vaccine are rare and calling the vaccine “poisonous” is not fair.
The Claim
A Facebook post claims that the Covid-19 vaccines are toxic. The post includes a video featuring an Australian news report about an individual pursuing compensation for medical issues allegedly linked to the AstraZeneca Covid vaccine. Moreover, the Facebook post’s caption declares, ‘All the Covid jabs are poison ☠, and this is a common reaction to the poisoning’.
We have attached a screenshot of the post below:
Fact Check
Are COVID-19 vaccines poisonous?
Not exactly. The COVID-19 vaccines authorized for use by health authorities such as the Food and Drug Administration, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, World Health Organisation, Indian Government website, and other relevant organizations are not poisonous. These vaccines have undergone rigorous testing and have been shown to be safe and effective at preventing COVID-19. They have been administered to millions of people in India and worldwide, with a strong safety record. It is important to rely on reputable sources and consult with healthcare professionals for accurate information about COVID-19 vaccines and their safety. False claims suggesting that COVID-19 vaccines are poisonous are not based on scientific evidence and can be harmful.
In context with the claimed video, COVID-19 vaccines can often cause mild side effects, like a sore arm or feeling a bit like having the flu for a short time. Serious reactions can happen, but it is rare. However, it is not right to say that serious medical problems happen commonly because of them.
THIP MEDIA has previously debunked claims about COVID-19 vaccines causing various side effects. In one story, we addressed the claim that COVID-19 vaccines cause Stiff Person Syndrome. In another story, we examined the assertion that COVID-19 vaccines cause issues such as blood clots, cancer, and infertility. In a separate story, we investigated the claim that Pfizer vaccines harm the heart and brain. In one of the posts a video was shared that shows the Italian military warehouse was on fire which had Covid-19 vaccines.
One of the posts also told that anyone who takes the Covid vaccine should avoid anesthesia for 4 weeks. In another fake social media post a user shows two samples of blood claiming that Covid-19 vaccinated people have a darker colour blood.
Evidence shows that for a medicine to be considered safe, the expected benefits of the medicine will be greater than the risk of suffering harmful reactions. In the case of the COVID-19 vaccines, the benefits of the vaccines are greater than the risks for most people.
A fake post also claimed that men are getting swollen testicles after getting vaccinated.
Editorial Note of correction: Covid vaccine can cause mild side effects and the same has been listed on all Govt. health websites. The word “often” has been removed from the context due to lack of proper research evidence. The same has been pointed out by one of our reader.
