  • Fact Check: This video doesn't show 'reality' of Bahraich violence, it's from Maharajganj India Today Fact Check found that this incident took place in Mishraulia village in Maharajganj, more than 200 kilometres away from Bahraich. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This October 11 video is from Mishraulia village in UP’s Maharajganj, more than 200 km from Bahraich. It took place two days before the violence in Bahraich. In the aftermath of communal violence in Bahraich, Uttar Pradesh, during which a Hindu man, Ram Gopal Mishra, was killed, a video allegedly showing the incident was widely shared online. Those sharing the video claimed: "This video reveals the truth about how the violence in Bahraich actually started." In the video, people can be seen dancing to loud music while marching through a street with saffron flags featuring the iconic “Angry Hanuman” image. Suddenly, one of the people standing outside a house pulls away the flag and throws it, after which a clash starts. Sharing the video on X, one person wrote in Hindi: "Make the truth of Bahraich go viral, Hindus. Look carefully, first the Jihadis snatched the saffron flag and tore it, then threw stones at the Durga procession. After this, the situation in Bahraich worsened. Show the world who the real rioter is." Other similar posts can be seen here and here. According to an ETV Bharat report, this incident took place during the Durga Puja Dola procession in Uttar Pradesh’s Mishraulia village, which falls under the Nichlaul police station, on October 11. The report stated that following the incident, police were heavily deployed in the area. At the same time, the police registered a case against 12 named persons and five unidentified people.
