  • Fact Check: No Communal Angle In Meerut Fight: Viral Video Shared With False Claim Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be false. The video, which showed a fight between people of the same community was made viral with a false communal claim. The Hindu family was not involved in the incident. - By: Ashish Maharishi - Published: Dec 31, 2024 at 05:10 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News). A 14-second video clip is going viral on various social media platforms, showing a man abusing and holding a pistol in his hand. Some users are sharing this clip with communal claims, alleging that a Muslim man was threatening to kill a Hindu family in Meerut. Vishvas News investigated the viral post and found the claim to be baseless. Both parties involved in the incident belonged to the same community and the allegation about the Hindu family is false. The video of the dispute over the road was shared with a false communal claim. The incident took place in Meerut in November. What is going viral On December 29, 2024, Facebook user Sachinrao D Naykodi-Patil posted a video clip with the caption, “Meerut, make this Jihadi famous, he is threatening to kill the entire Hindu family.” The content of the viral post is reproduced here verbatim. You can see the archived version here. Investigation To investigate the viral clip, Vishvas News extracted several keyframes and conducted a reverse image search using Google Lens. This led us to a news report on Bhaskar.com, where the same clip was featured. The report stated that in Meerut’s Sardhana, a dispute over road access escalated, resulting in some individuals attacking the neighbour’s house. A person broke the window glass of the house with a stick, while another man stood outside the house with a pistol. The news further stated, “Sophia, the wife of Arshad, a resident of Mohalla Kamra Navabad, Sardhana, filed a complaint at the police station stating that her husband drives a Tata Magic. When he returned home in the evening with the vehicle and was about to park it, he noticed several youths standing in the middle of the road on bikes at Kalnchungi. The victim asked the bike riders to move aside. In response, the accused attacked him. One of the accused later went to the victim’s house and continued to assault him while using abusive language.” Read the full news here. Using the Google Open Search Tool with relevant keywords, we found a news article on Amar Ujala.com. The article, dated November 23, 2024, reported the arrest of Shahid, who was wanted in connection with spreading terror by firing in Mohalla Kamranwaban, Sardhana. A bounty of ₹25,000 was placed on his head. According to Station In-Charge Pratap Singh, the report stated, “There was a dispute with Arshad Khan, a resident of Mohalla Kamranwaban, regarding the removal of a vehicle from the road. The accused broke the victim’s car window, then went to his house and attempted to kill him by firing.” In connection with the incident, Sofia Ali Khan filed a complaint against the accused and a case was registered against Gufran (son of Islam), Imran (son of Islam), Rahim (son of Tahir), Ayyub (son of Mim), Ilyas (son of Shahid), and Shadab (son of Rahisuddin). In this case, the police had already sent Rahim and Ayyub to jail. Meanwhile, Ilyas, who had a reward of ₹25,000, was arrested from Tehsil Road. During the investigation, Vishvas News contacted Lokesh Pandit, a crime reporter of Dainik Jagran, Meerut, who confirmed that the viral clip is of an incident from November. There was a dispute between people of the same community in Meeru, not a communal altercation. The police registered a case and the accused were sent to jail. There was no communal angle in this. At the end of the investigation, Vishvas News analysed the account that shared the fake post. This user, Sachinrao D Naykodi-Patil has around 1800 Facebook followers and created the account in July 2010. Currently, he lives in Maharashtra. Conclusion: Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be false. The video, which showed a fight between people of the same community was made viral with a false communal claim.
