Fact Check
Is Paracetamol a valid medicine for Anxiety and Depression?
Though Paracetamol is not used as a regular anti-depressant, some researches have shown that anti-inflammatory drugs like paracetamol can curb depression symptoms. The effects are better when it is combined with standard antidepressant treatment. However, more extensive researches are required before passing paracetamols as an evidence-based medicine for anxiety or depression.
We consulted Clinical Psychologist, Dr. Puneet Jain. He says, “In real life, medical professionals do not use paracetamol as anti-depressants. It’s not a recommended use. It’s an anti-inflammatory drug and best suited for fever and pain.”
Does paracetamol become more effective if mixed with soda drinks?
There is no scientific evidence that shows that paracetamol mixed with soda drinks can cure anxiety or depression. Rather, according to Medicine.org, you must not drink fizzy drinks if you are taking Paracetamol.
Dr. Jain mentions, “This is absolutely false. If you are doubting to be under depression, it’s best to consult a medical professional rather than self-medicating based on random internet videos. On one hand, you stand the risk of aggravating your mental condition, on the other you are at risk of drug overdose and complications due to it. “
