  • Fact Check: S. Jaishankar Wasn’t Pushed Back at Trump’s Inauguration Ceremony, FAKE Claim Viral The claim that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar was moved back from the front row at US President Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony is fake. As per protocol, Jaishankar was sitting in the front row and there was no change in his sitting arrangement during the event. - By: Abhishek Parashar - Published: Jan 23, 2025 at 06:38 PM New Delhi (Vishvas News): After the swearing-in ceremony, a video related to Donald Trump’s inauguration went viral on various social media platforms. The post claims that this video shows Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, seated in the front row, being pushed back. Vishvas News investigated this claim and found it to be false. The person being pushed back from the front row is not Indian Foreign Minister S. Jaishankar, but a female photographer. What is viral? Social media user ‘Shailendra Dikshit’ shared the viral video clip with the caption, “#Foreign_Minister_Jaishankar was pushed back at #Trump’s swearing-in ceremony!” Investigation The viral video clip is from President Trump’s swearing-in ceremony, which was broadcast on several official channels. We found the same footage on the official YouTube channel of ‘The White House’, where it’s clear that during the event, a woman managing the program asks the female photographer, who is standing in front of S. Jaishankar and taking photos, to move back. At the 34.50-minute and 35.10-minute marks of the video, the female photographer can be seen moving back and Indian Foreign Minister S Jaishankar remains seated in the front row. The video of Trump’s swearing-in ceremony is available on the YouTube channel ‘Joint Congressional Committee on Inaugural Ceremonies’, which has been organising and implementing the swearing-in ceremony of the American President since 1901. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar, who attended the US Presidential swearing-in ceremony as Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s special representative, was given a front-row seat, and “this is an upgrade of the official protocol”, First Post reported. While Jaishankar was given a front-row seat, Japanese Foreign Minister Takeshi Iwaya was given a second-row seat, the report stated. Jaishankar has shared the pictures of this swearing-in ceremony on his official X handle. Regarding the viral claim, we contacted Madhurendra Kumar, a senior TV journalist who covers international affairs. He refuted the viral claim stating, “Nothing like this happened during Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.” According to a statement issued by the Ministry of External Affairs on January 12, 2025, “At the invitation of the Trump-Vance Inaugural Committee, External Affairs Minister (EAM) Dr. S. Jaishankar will be addressing the gathering of President-elect Donald J. Trump as the 47th President of the United States. Will represent the Government of India at Trump’s swearing-in ceremony.” The statement said that during this visit, the Foreign Minister will also meet representatives of the Trump government. The Facebook user who shared the viral video with the fake claim has over 6,000 followers. Conclusion: The claim that External Affairs Minister Jaishankar was moved back from the front row at US President Donald Trump’s swearing-in ceremony is fake. As per protocol, Jaishankar was sitting in the front row and there was no change in his sitting arrangement during the event. - Claim Review : External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar was sidelined at Donald Trump's swearing-in ceremony. - Claimed By : Facebook User 'Shailendra Dikshit' - Fact Check : False Know the truth!
