  • A video on social media is being shared in Bengaluru circles claiming that the roads flooded with rainwater and suddently sparks of electricity can be seen in the middle of the floods. The fire remains live for long while vehicles and two-wheelers pass by. ಬ್ರಾಂಡ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಬಿಸಿ ನೀರು ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಅಷ್ಟೇ…. ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಏನಾದ್ರೆ ನಮಗೇನು ಅಂತಿದೆ ಕಾಸಿಲ್ಲದ ಸರ್ಕಾರ.. pic.twitter.com/mMGfIdLWLd — ಯತ್ನಾಳ್ ಹಿಂದೂ ಸೇನೆ 🚩 (@yathnalabhimani) October 20, 2024 Shared by Tatnal Hindu Sena, the claim in Kannada reads: “ಬ್ರಾಂಡ್ ಬೆಂಗಳೂರು ಬಿಸಿ ನೀರು ಭಾಗ್ಯ ಅಷ್ಟೇ…. ಯಾರಿಗೆ ಏನಾದ್ರೆ ನಮಗೇನು ಅಂತಿದೆ ಕಾಸಿಲ್ಲದ ಸರ್ಕಾರ.. ” The English tranlsation reads: “Brand Bengaluru hot water is lucky. What’s wrong with us, a government without money?” The context of the claim is that the Karnataka government lacks money to maintain electric poles in the city when heavy rains occur during monsoon season. A similar claim can be viewed here. FACT-CHECK We took key frames of the video and conducted a Google Reverse Image Search. The results showed a link to the original video carried out by a Vietnamese news website AFamily.vn here. The report published on October 16, 2024, by the Vietnamese news site, titled “Horrifying clip of broken electric wire falling onto the flooded road, sparks flying everywhere: The actions of some people cause concern.” See the similar video uploaded on an Arabic Youtube channel here with the caption: “Electricity comes into contact with water due to floods in Vietnam”: The news report in Vietnam further said that city of Can Tho in Vietnam witnessed severe flooding on October 14, 2024 that caused a high-voltage line break during the thunder and fell on the flooded road and the electric wire continued to spew sparks for quite some time after crashing. Hence, the video is from Vietnam and not from Bengaluru city in India. Claim: Video shows electric pole with sparks on flooded road claiming the government doesn’t have money. Conclusion: Misrepresentation. The video showing a sparking electric wire on flooded road is from Vietnam and not Bengaluru. Rating: Misrepresentation —
