| - Fact Check: Viral video claiming to show earthquakes in Nepal is false
After this, a collage video claiming to be visuals of the earthquake that occurred in Nepal went viral on the social media.
Two earthquakes of magnitude 4.7 and 5.3 hit Nepal’s Baglung district in the early hours of December 28, 2022. According to the NEMRC, Nepal, an earthquake of magnitude 4.7 occurred around Adhikari Chaur of Baglung district at 1.23 am.
After this, a collage video claiming to be visuals of the earthquake that occurred in Nepal went viral on the social media. The video has 3 parts with different visuals. In the first part (till 0.24 seconds), the video shows vehicles on the road stop after tremors begin. Some of the bikers can be seen falling and cars stalling in the middle of the road.
Second part of the video (from 0.25 seconds to 0.29 seconds), the video shows products placed in a supermarket shaking and falling off the racks.
Third part of the video (from 0.30 seconds till the end) shows a car parked outside a house shaking due to tremors.
Fact Check:
The claim is FALSE. The video shows different visuals of earthquakes that occurred in different places. As per the official reports, the recent earthquake in Nepal occurred at 1.30 am approx., so it is not possible for such visuals to be linked to it.
When the key frames extracted from the video were searched using Google reverse image search, we found that the first part of the video (till 0.24 seconds) has been shared several times with various claims. The video was popularly shared on different social media platforms claiming that it shows earthquake in Peru in May 2022.
Not only on social media platforms, the video was shared by several websites which claimed the video was from Peru.
Peru witnessed an earthquake in May 2022, but the viral video does not show the earthquake in Peru. It has been online since 2015, not May 2022. The oldest version of the viral video was shared by a YouTube channel named Selten video on June 15, 2015 with the title Nepal earthquake CCTV footage Darbar Marg Kathmandu 25 April 2015.
It was also shared by The Best of India YouTube channel on December 13, 2019. According to the channel, the video shows an earthquake in Darbar Marg, Kathmandu, Nepal in April 2015. It was shot during the infamous Nepal Gorkha earthquake of 2015.
The footage is part of the broadcast footage archive of Wilderness Films India Ltd, the largest HD and 4K video collection from South Asia.

When searching for the second part of the video (from 0.25 seconds to 0.29 seconds), we found a few videos stating that it shows tremors in Quito, the capital of Ecuador.
According to posts, a 4.52 magnitude earthquake was recorded in Quito, Ecuador on November 23, 2021.

The third part of the video (from 0.30 seconds) shows the tremors in Greece and was shared by YouTube channels showing earthquake in Greece.
One such video was shared by a YouTube channel named Merthika in October 2021. A 6.4 magnitude earthquake has hit the Greek holiday island of Crete on October 12, 2021. According to the US Geological Survey, the quake struck the east coast of the island at a depth of 10 km.
Therefore, the viral video does not show the recent earthquake that occurred in Nepal in December 2022. The claim is FALSE.
