  • FACT CHECK: Video Of Missile Strike Is From 2020, Not From A Recent Hamas Attack A video shared on social media purportedly shows Hamas firing a barrage of rockets from Gaza toward Israel. 🚨JUST IN: Video of a salvo of rockets fired by Hamas from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. Earlier it was reported that Hamas tried to attack the airport in Tel Aviv. Rockets were also fired at Israeli Ashkelon. Some of the rockets failed to be shot down: a few minutes ago, one… pic.twitter.com/CNFYTScL4U — Mario Nawfal (@MarioNawfal) October 8, 2023 Verdict: False The claim is inaccurate. The video was uploaded to YouTube in 2020 and does not appear to be related to current events in Gaza. Fact Check: Israeli forces fired missile strikes into Lebanon after receiving rocket attacks from Hezbollah from within the country, BBC News reported. Israel has reinforced its territory to the north with thousands of troops after the conflict. The Twitter post allegedly shows Hamas military firing rockets from the Gaza Strip at Israel. The caption reads, “JUST IN: Video of a salvo of rockets fired by Hamas from the Gaza Strip towards Israel. Earlier it was reported that Hamas tried to attack the airport in Tel Aviv. Rockets were also fired at Israeli Ashkelon. Some of the rockets failed to be shot down: a few minutes ago, one of the rockets hit Ashkelon.” This video is miscaptioned. There is no credible news report that suggests this video was of a recent Hamas attack. The video was uploaded to YouTube on Feb, 28 2020. The video’s title claims that it was from Syria. (RELATED: Video Of Pakistani Air Force Is Old) There are credible news reports that indicate that there was a military conflict in Syria at the time that this video was posted to YouTube. ABC News reported Russia denied any involvement in a rocket attack that killed Turkish soldiers in Idlib, a province of Syria. Hamas has used rockets in their recent attack in Israel. The Associated Press reported when Hamas militants stormed the blockade and entered Israel, they were using rockets when they infiltrated. This is not the first piece of misinformation surrounding the Israeli-Hamas conflict that has been shared online. Check Your Fact debunked a claim that Joe Biden provided Israel with $8 billion in military aid after the recent attack. Note: Check Your Fact is working to debunk false and misleading claims from the recent event. Please send tips to [email protected].
