| - A picture allegedly featuring actor Shah Rukh Khan and his spouse Gauri Khan in Mecca is circulating on social media with the claim that she embraced Islam after 33 years of marriage.
What we found: At first, we noticed that the quality of the image was extremely smooth and texture free which hinted at the photo being edited or AI-generated.
Secondly, the superstar's right eye in the image looked a bit strange.
We, then, ran the image on two AI-detection websites such as TrueMedia and Hive Moderation.
TrueMedia: The tool found "substantial evidence of manipulation" in the image and stated that was created using generative AI.
Hive Moderation: This tool stated that the image contained 98.3% AI content.
Additional Insights: On converting to Islam, Gauri made her stance clear in an episode of talk show Koffee with Karan in 2005. She said, “There is a balance. I respect Shah Rukh’s religion, but that doesn’t mean I would convert. I believe everyone should follow their own faith, and there should be mutual respect. Shah Rukh would never disrespect my religion either," reported Indian Express and Hindustan Times.
Conclusion: An AI-generated image has gone viral to falsely claim Gauri Khan converted to Islam.
