  • Fact Check: Did a truck run over pro-Palestine protestors in LA? Nope, this video is from 2020 India Today found that the incident is nearly three years old and occurred during 2020's Black Lives Matter protests. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video dates back to May 31, 2020, and shows a truck crashing Black Lives Matter protestors in Tulsa, Oklahoma. Demanding a ceasefire in Gaza, several protestors blocked a freeway in Los Angeles on December 13. Reportedly, 75 protestors were arrested. Now, a shocking video of a truck running over protestors is making the rounds on social media. Some shared this clip on X and claimed that the incident happened during the LA protest. "A truck driver attacked by pro-Palestine protesters drives over one of them on the Los Angeles freeway," claimed such posts. On Facebook one person shared the video and wrote, "BREAKING: Truck runs over Pro-Palestinian protesters blocking the LA freeway." India Today Fact Check found that the video is old and unrelated to the recent pro-Palestine protest in Los Angeles. Our Probe A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to the same clip shared by an X user on June 1, 2020, making it evident that the incident is not recent. The post claimed that the incident occurred on I-244, an interstate expressway in Tulsa, Oklahoma. An advanced search with keywords led us to the extended version of the same clip uploaded to the YouTube channel of NBC News on June 2, 2020. The description of this video mentioned that the incident took place during a Black Lives Matter protest following the police killing of George Floyd on May 25, 2020. A different video of the same incident reported by other media organisations from Tulsa shows how the truck approached the protestors and ran through the crowd. Subsequent searches with keywords took us to a local news report from Oklahoma published on July 23, 2020, featuring identical visuals of the same incident. Reportedly, the incident occurred on May 31, 2020. According to the report, no one was fatally injured and no criminal charges were filed against the driver of the truck, as clarified by Tulsa County District Attorney Steve Kunzweiler. Therefore, it’s apparent that a video from a Black Lives Matter protest was falsely peddled as a recent pro-Palestine demonstration.
