Amid the Israel-Hamas conflict, a video of children angrily shouting at a group of soldiers has been shared by many on social media. One such post read, "Heartbreaking video surface online how Palestine kids are challenging Israel army to stop killing their people. Can Hamas soldiers listen to Israelite children like this? India Today found that while the children are indeed from Palestine and the soldiers from Israel, this video dates back to 2012 and is unrelated to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
Our Probe
A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led to a news report in The Guardian, dated January 2, 2018, containing the same video. In the report, one of the girls was identified as Ahed Tamimi, now a Palestinian activist. Per the news, in 2012 Israeli soldiers had arrested Ahed’s older brother. This prompted her to raise her hand while yelling at the troops in protest.
Sky News, The Times Of Israel, the BBC all published stories on Ahed Tamimi, mentioning the 2012's incident.
We also found photos from this 2012 incident on the stock photo website Getty Images. In these photos, Ahed Tamimi and other children can be seen more clearly, angrily shouting at Israeli soldiers in the West Bank village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah.
Incidentally, back in February 2022, right after the Russian invasion of Ukraine began, this same video was widely shared. At the time, people sharing it alleged that it showed Ukrainian children confronting Russian soldiers. At the time, AajTak and other fact-checking websites debunked it.
Thus, it is safe to conclude that this video is unrelated to the ongoing Israel-Hamas conflict.
