On carefully analysing the image, we spotted “upcoming by-election in Malappuram” written in the sub-head, raising our suspicion. We also noticed “India Today” written on the top
We then looked up keywords “BJP,” N Sreeprakash” “beef” and “India Today” on Google which led us to a report by the outlet dated April 2, 2017. The report had the same title, and subheading as seen in the image.
Its title read, “Give me your vote, I will give you good-quality beef, promises BJP’s Kerala candidate.” The subheading stated, “N Sreeprakash, the Bharatiya Janata Party candidate for the upcoming by-election in Malappuram, has promised that he will ensure the supply of good beef from clean slaughterhouses in his constituency,” were the same as seen in the image.
Multiple other outlets had reported on Sreeprakash’s remarks on beef in April 2017. Such as this, this and this.
