Fact News reports carrying pictures of their wedding ceremony make it evident that no one died in the chopper crash. A video of a helicopter purportedly crashing while landing at a wedding venue, and bursting into flames as guests scamper to rescue the passengers is going viral on social media platforms. Those sharing the clip claimed that a bride and groom, who were aboard chopper and wanted to make a grand entry on their wedding day, died in the crash. Newschecker found the claim to be untrue. Several Facebook and Twitter users shared the video with the caption, “The bride and groom arriving and landing in a luxurious wedding helicopter, all dreams vanish in a moment…. Parents watching their own children die helplessly, invited guests too. Never be proud of wealth…” Such posts can be seen here, here, here, here, here and here. The video has also found its way to YouTube. Newschecker also received the video on our WhatsApp tipline (+91-9999499044 ) requesting to be fact checked. Also Read: Viral Story Of 8-Year-Old Yemeni Child Bride Bleeding To Death On Wedding Night Is Misleading A Google reverse image search on the frames of the viral footage, along with the keywords “bride,” “groom,” & “helicopter crash” led us to a report by The Sun, dated May 6, 2018, titled ‘WEDDING CRASHER Bride cheats death as helicopter carrying her to wedding crash lands in front of guests in Brazil.’ The report stated, “A bride cheated death after the helicopter carrying her to her wedding crashed in flames in front of stunned guests. Unbelievably, she not only survived – but the ceremony went on as planned…Fire crews rushed to the site to find everyone has scrambled from the wreckage before it erupted into flames. Everyone, except the blushing bride, suffered minor injuries…” We compared the visuals featured in The Sun report with the keyframes of the viral clip, and could conclude that both are from the same incident. Following this, we looked up “bride,” “helicopter,” “crash,” “survive” & “2018” in Portuguese on YouTube, which yielded a video by Brazil Urgent, dated May 8, 2018. It carried snippets from the viral clip, and detailed, “The aircraft was taking the bride to her wedding ceremony in Vinhedo, in the interior of São Paulo, when it collided with one of the buffet towers and crashed. Soon after there was an explosion, but no one was injured.” A El Pais report on the incident carried a statement by the hotel saying, “All the guests, the bride and groom and the pilot are doing well and the event took place as requested by the bride and groom themselves.” Adding, “ Local television channels broadcast part of the wedding, with the bride and groom feeling emotional, but still unable to forget the scare.” Multiple other news outlets reported on this incident clarifying that all the passengers aboard the helicopter were safe, and the wedding rituals were carried out as planned. Such reports can be seen here, here and here. We could thus conclude that the viral video shared to claim that a groom and bride died in a helicopter crash while making a grand entry to their wedding venue is false. Though the helicopter did crash, no one aboard had died and the wedding had taken place as planned.
