Verdict: False There is no evidence Barr has been convicted of treason. The claim appears to stem from a website that describes itself as containing “humor, parody, and satire.” Fact Check: The image shows a Telegram message that contains what looks like a link to a recent Best News Here article that puts up the headline “Military Convicts William Barr.” It claims the former attorney general was convicted June 21 of treason partly in connection to the 2020 presidential election and has been sentenced to death. These allegations are baseless, however. Check Your Fact didn’t find any mention of Barr being charged, arrested or convicted of such a crime in press releases on the respective websites of the Department of Justice and Department of Defense. There is also no reporting from national news outlets about Barr being convicted or sentenced to death. “This is not true,” a Department of Defense spokesperson said in an email to Check Your Fact when asked about the claim. (RELATED: Does Attorney General William Barr Sit On The Board Of Dominion Voting Systems?) The Best News Here story lifts from a June 27 Real Raw News article, a keyword search revealed. While Real Raw News states on its “About Us” page that its website “contains humor, parody, and satire,” the Best News Here article and the Facebook image do not include a similar disclaimer, leading some users to mistakenly believe the story is real. This is not the first time inaccurate claims have stemmed from Real Raw News articles. Check Your Fact has previously debunked social media posts baselessly alleging that former President Bill Clinton was convicted by a military tribunal and that Democratic California Rep. Adam Schiff was arrested by the military, both of which appeared to have originated from articles posted by Real Raw News.
