  • A rumor that Disney announced women can now go topless inside Disney World circulated online in October 2024. For example, a Facebook user posted (archived): I heard something today that if I were a parent would really disturb me. Apparently women can now go topless at Disney World. What??? Yes, it's true. So that's what you want to see at your family park with your little kids is some woman running around topless. They said if men can go topless and Disney World women should be allowed to. I don't think neither one should be going topless at Disney World. Although I can't say I've ever seen anybody topless at Disney World. I watched a lot of live streams from there and I went there as a kid. Never seen a dude running around without a shirt on. In fact, if you look up the dress code from in there, they're not allowed to go topless the wire women? You do not need that around children. That's just uncalled for. Disney has so lost their marbles. Not just because of this, but everything that they've done from their movies to their politics. The whole thing is just no longer family Friendly . If I had kids, we would not be going to Disney World that is for sure. I thought this was a joke or somebody making a quick bait [sic] video. Until I actually googled and found out this is for real. No joke. Other users also seemed to interpret rumor as a factual recounting of real-life events. One Facebook user claimed the purported news was "official" and not satire. Another person called Disney "disgusting," and added, "They're all about the 666." A different user also shared of the rumor, "Disney has lost what little morals it displayed before!!! Now women can go topless in Disney World!!! I foresee many lawsuits!!!" However, there was no evidence of Disney announcing anything about allowing women to go topless at Disney World or any other theme parks. Rather, the rumor originated with Mouse Trap News — a website that described its output as "satire and parody." Its "About" page stated, in part: "Mouse Trap News is the world's best satire and parody site. We write fake stories about Disney Parks stuff. From Disney Park announcements to Disney Hotel and resort news to made-up Disney partnerships, you can be assured that anything you read here is not true, real, or accurate, but it is fun." The article (archived) published by Mouse Trap News on Oct. 6 began: Women can now go topless at Disney World. This is an effort by Disney to be more inclusive for all. It's also part of the nationwide Free The Nip movement. Disney understands that there is a stigma around women going topless. However, they want to break that glass ceiling to make women feel more comfortable in their parks. Part of the reason is because Florida is so hot, allowing women to remove their shirts will allow them to be more comfortable. However, the main reason is to allow for equality among men and women. The fictional story also spread via a popular video on the Mouse Trap News TikTok account, where it had received more than 1.6 million views as of this writing: Snopes has addressed similar satirical claims originating from Mouse Trap News in the past, including the assertion that Disney World added tampons to men's restrooms and a rumor that the company planned to charge park guests to use bathrooms. For background, here is why we alert readers to rumors created by sources that call their output humorous or satirical.
