New Delhi (Vishvas News): A viral post on social media claims that Nokia is giving away 2000 free phones during coronavirus pandemic. Vishvas News investigated and found the viral post to be fake. Nokia is not offering free phones during the pandemic.
Claim
A social media post shared by a page named Nokia Smartphone 2020 reads: “Hi everyone, Nokia is ready to give away 2000 phones to people because of this pandemic period. FREE PHONES FOR STUDENTS & WORKERS. TO WIN VIVO PHONE Comment a lot of “t” to have a big chance to win!! No Scammer Please Let’s Help!! Then Come inbox! via “SEND MESSAGE” button bellow With the Screenshot!” The viral post can be checked here and its archived version can be checked here.
Investigation
The viral message asked its users to comment with the letter “t” in the comment box and send the message to the page with a screenshot of the post for a chance to win the Nokia phone.
In order to fact check, Vishvas News messaged the page with the screenshot of the post. We received an automatic reply asking us to giveaway in 10 Facebook posts.
We also searched about the offer claimed in the viral post on the official website of Nokia but there was no such offer present over there.
Vishvas News also contact Nokia through an email asking whether they’ve rolled out any such offer. The company’s spokesperson replied to us stating:
“At the moment we haven’t released a promotion like that, there is a chance it is not the original one or from third party seller, distributor. I suggest you follow the news on our official website and social channels for further information.”
Facebook page Nokia Smartphone 2020 shared the message on its Facebook page. When we scanned the page we found that the page was created on June 28, 2020.
Conclusion: Nokia is not giving away 2000 phones during coronavirus pandemic, viral message is fake.
