  • Recently, a claim alleging that Bangladesh has banned all Indian satellite channels circulated online. Translated by: Rumor Scanner The same claim was propagated by Indian media outlet “Republic Bangla” on their Facebook page (archived link) and YouTube channel (archived link). Translated by: Rumor Scanner See Facebook posts making these claims: here (archived), here (archived), here (archived), here (archived), here (archived), and here (archived). Fact Check An investigation by the Rumor Scanner team confirmed that Indian satellite channels are operating normally in Bangladesh. The claim of a ban is completely baseless and unsupported by any credible evidence. Both the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting and the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh have categorically denied this claim. At the start of the investigation, a relevant keyword search revealed no credible evidence or reports supporting the claim. Rumor Scanner subsequently contacted the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting to seek clarification. Mohammad Mamunur Rashid, the Public Relations Officer of the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting, stated: “No such decision has been made by the Ministry. Had such a decision been taken, I would have been informed.” To verify further, Rumor Scanner contacted the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh. Syed Mosharraf Ali Chanchal, General Secretary of the Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh, said: “The Cable Operators Association of Bangladesh has not made any such decision. Additionally, to my knowledge, the current government has not taken any such decision either. All Indian satellite channels are operating as usual.” Conclusion The claim that Indian satellite channels have been banned in Bangladesh is completely false. This rumor is devoid of any factual basis and has been unequivocally denied by the relevant authorities.
