  • This is NOT an aeroplane view of the Chandrayaan-3 launch, this is an old video from Florida This video was shot above the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in Florida, US. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This video was recorded in Florida, US, over the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station in May 2021. It shows the launch of the rocket Atlas V. On July 14, ISRO's lunar mission Chandrayaan-3 was successfully launched into Earth's orbit. The historic launch attracted millions of enthusiastic spectators, and several videos of the rocket making its way into the heavens went viral on social media. One video making the rounds shot from inside an aeroplane shows a rocket being launched. Allegedly this was the Chandrayaan-3 launch. While sharing this video, many on Twitter wrote, "Beautiful view of Chandrayaan 3." An archived version of such a post can be seen here. This clip was shared on Facebook as well. India Today Fact Check, however, found that the video is more than two years old and is unrelated to the launch of Chandrayaan-3. Our Probe A reverse search of keyframes from the viral video led us to a website named Born In Space, where an article from May 21, 2021, featured screenshots from the same video. The article mentioned that the clip showed the launch of the Atlas V rocket from Florida's Cape Canaveral Space Station in the US. Subsequent searches led us to a verified YouTube channel called “Video From Space”, where we found the same clip that was uploaded on May 22, 2021. According to the caption, the video was shot by photographer Andy Lin and showed the launch of rocket Atlas V. Per the Kennedy Space centre, Atlas V carried missile warning satellites to assist the US Space and Missile Systems Centre in missile warning, missile defence, battlespace awareness, and technical intelligence. We compared the satellite view of the Cape Canaveral Space Force Station with the viral video and found that the coastlines visible in both were the same. This made it clear that this video did not show Sriharikota's Satish Dhawan Space Centre from where the lunar mission was launched. It’s noteworthy that some passengers experienced a similar view of Chandrayaan-3 on July 14, while travelling to Dhaka from Chennai on an IndiGo flight. However, the viral video is clearly not related to the Chandrayaan-3 launch at all Please share it on our at 73 7000 7000 You can also send us an email at factcheck@intoday.com
