Fact Check
Amid Russian ‘military operations’, a video is going viral claiming to show recent attacks in Ukraine.
To verify the authenticity of the viral video that is being shared with the claim to show the Russian attack on Ukraine, Newschecker conducted a Yandex image search by using keyframes of the viral video and came across a tweet by a user @51st__State, dated December 31, 2018.
The tweet carried the same 1:32-minute video that is doing the rounds on social media amid the Russian invasion in Ukraine.
Newschecker also found that the video was uploaded on a website called ‘VK’ on December 17, 2018, with a caption in Russian that roughly translates to “Cities overhead. Scary. Grad rocket launchers fire through the positions. How do grad rockets fly if they fly overhead.”
On conducting a Yandex image search on other keyframes of the viral clip we came across a video uploaded on a YouTube channel called ‘wildhunt espada’ on January 14, 2019, with the caption ‘Interesting view of Grad barrage.
This video has been in circulation at least since 2018 and is unrelated to the current Russian military operations in Ukraine.
