  • A video showing of crying Navneet Rana, who contested from Amravati in Maharashtra on BJP ticket in 2024 Lok Sabha elections, is making the rounds on social media with a claim that the incident followed after defeat in the elections. The caption reads: “During Campaign ~ If you want to be in this country, you should say Jai Shri Ram… After results…” and follows with the video showing her crying on a hospital bed. During Campaign ~ If you want to be in this country, you should say Jai Shri Ram After Results ~ — Mannu (@mannu_meha) June 5, 2024 The post can be accessed here. FACT-CHECK Digiteye India received a request to fact-check the video and a simple reverse image search on Google showed that the video was an old one posted on May 5, 2022 as a part of the daily news coverage by News18 TV channel. The logo clearly shows it. #WATCH | #HanumanChalisaRow | #LoudspeakerRow | Independent MP Navneet Rana Admitted To Hospital In Mumbai. pic.twitter.com/sH2Enxd7QJ — News18 (@CNNnews18) May 5, 2022 Titled, “Arrested Maharashtra MP Navneet Rana Admitted To Hospital In Mumbai,” the video covered an unrelated incident when she was arrested along with her husband after giving a call to recite Hanuman Chalisa outside the residence of then Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. It was widely covered in media. Hence, the claim that the video shows Navneet Rana crying after losing the 2024 elections is false. Claim: Navneet Rana, ‘who insisted that saying Jai Shriram is must if you want to stay in this country’, was seen crying’ in a video after losing 2024 Lok Sabha elections. Conclusion: The claim is false. An old video of Navneet Rana from April 2022 was used to portray her crying after deafeat in Amravati Lok Sabha seat. Rating: Misrepresentation —
