  • FACT CHECK: Does This Image Show Part Of Nancy Pelosi’s Congressional District? An image shared on Facebook purportedly shows a homeless encampment in House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s congressional district. Verdict: False The image actually shows a homeless encampment in San Jose, California, which is outside Pelosi’s district. Fact Check: Pelosi represents California’s 12th congressional district, which covers most of San Francisco, according to her website. Some social media users have been sharing an image, purportedly taken in Pelosi’s district, featuring a woman carrying a jug with several tents in the background. “Third world country?” text in the image states. “Nope… This is San Francisco, Nancy Pelosi’s district.” The conservative student organization Turning Point USA’s logo can be seen in the upper-left portion of the image. (RELATED: Did Nancy Pelosi Tweet, ‘I Will Be Introducing Legislation To Welcome United Nations Peace Keepers Into The United States’?) In reality, the photo was not taken in Pelosi’s congressional district. Through a reverse image search, Check Your Fact found the image published by Reuters in 2014. The photo actually shows a homeless encampment occupant as she “collects her belongings as authorities break down massive homeless encampment known as ‘The Jungle’ in San Jose, California December 4, 2014,” according to the photo’s caption. The image also appeared in a December 2014 Business Insider article about the camp, which was located on 68 acres and bordered on San Jose’s Coyote Creek, being dismantled by the City of San Jose. NBC Bay Area and The Mercury News reported that the camp was located near Story Road, where it fell within California’s 19th congressional district. Democratic Rep. Zoe Lofgren has represented California’s 19th congressional district since January 2013, according to GovTrack.
