  • FACT CHECK: Was Nancy Pelosi Forced To Resign In Leaked Audio? A post shared on Facebook purported audio had been leaked revealing House Speaker Nancy Pelosi was being pressured to step down. Verdict: False There is no evidence that Pelosi resigned due to leaked audio. The speaker had previously hinted at her resignation years prior. Fact Check: Paul Pelosi accused attacker David DePape pleaded not guilty to the federal criminal charges of assault and attempted kidnapping, Reuters reported. Attorney General Merrick Garland has appointed former Public Integrity Section chief Jack Smith as a special prosecutor in investigations into former President Donald Trump, Politico reported. The social media post purports Pelosi has resigned due to a recording with unspecified revelations. The post does not identify the source of the leak, but claims user @RED.WAVE1776 posted some clips of the alleged tapes on his account. “BREAKING: IG user @red.wave1776 has acquired leaked audio that proves Nancy Pelosi was forced to resign,” the post reads. “Follow now to see the truth that is being blocked by mainstream media!” The leaks do not exist. There are no credible news reports suggesting there is any such audio. Pelosi has not addressed any such recording on her verified social media accounts. (RELATED: Does This Video Show Ted Cruz Saying He Has Documents That Would Implicate Adam Schiff?) Republicans were able to take control of the House after the recent midterm elections. Pelosi had the option to run as the house minority leader, but after over 20 years of Democratic leadership in the House she has chosen not to seek re-election. The speaker had previously suggested that she would step down at the end of the 2021-22 legislative calendar as part of a deal with Democratic lawmakers, Buzzfeed reported in 2018. Pelosi hinted at affirming the pledge in November 2020 following that year’s presidential election, according to Forbes. This is not the first time Pelosi has been the target of misinformation on social media. Check Your Fact recently debunked a claim Pelosi was arrested.
