  • FACT CHECK: Is Elon Musk Implementing A Follow Limit Of 200 On X? A post shared on X, the platform formerly known as Twitter, claims Elon Musk said that users will only be able to follow 200 people. Twitter is restricting the amount of accounts people can follow, similar to the game Roblox pic.twitter.com/hPacvz9YhZ — Kit (@anglelaputa) August 18, 2023 Verdict: False There is no evidence for this claim. There have been no credible news reports or announcements from Musk about this alleged change. A spokesperson for Dextero confirmed they did not make this tweet via email to Check Your Fact. Fact Check: Musk announced in a post on Monday that he plans to remove the headline and text on news article links on X, including only the lead image, Reuters reported. Musk reportedly is implementing this change to reduce the space articles take up and greatly improve the esthetics (sic),” according to Mashable. An X post purports Musk is limiting the amount of accounts someone can follow to 200. The post shares a screenshot of the alleged Twitter post. The caption reads, “Twitter is restricting the amount of accounts people can follow, similar to the game Roblox.” The claim is baseless, however. There are no posts on Musk’s account matching the screenshot used in the post. An archived version of Musk’s account from that day also shows no evidence of the post being made. The account that posted the claim posed as gaming news outlet Dexerto, and a screenshot of this can be seen in a reply to the post. A search of Dexerto’s verified account does not show such a post. Likewise, Check Your Fact found no credible news reports about an alleged follow limit. (RELATED: Post Falsely Claims Tweets Are Now Called ‘Xeets’) “That’s correct, we did not post this tweet, it was only ever an imitation account pretending to be a Dexerto page,” a spokesperson said in email to Check Your Fact. Check Your Fact has reached out to X for comment and will update this piece accordingly if one is received.
