  • A 2018 video of Assaduddin Owaisi at a public rally requesting people to be seated after a shoe was hurled at the podium is being shared with the false claim that people started exiting the venue after he criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi. In the 1.12 minutes video, one can hear Owaisi criticise the Modi government after which one can spot several people rushing towards the stage due to some unforeseen reason. The clip is being shared in the wake of Owaisi stating that he was not satisfied with the Supreme Court verdict on the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case. BOOM has in the past debunked fake and misleading posts shared by the same Twitter user. Click here to view, and here for an archive. Also Read: Supreme Court Paves Way For A Ram Temple, Muslims To Get Alternate Land In Ayodhya FACT-CHECK We broke the video into keyframes using InVid, a video verification tool, after which we ran a reverse image search using Yandex, a Russian search engine and found that people were not leaving the venue, as claimed by the tweet. The search results showed a news report uploaded by Zee News on January 23, 2018, which had the same footage as the viral video and reported that the incident happened after someone hurled a shoe towards Owaisi. He was addressing a meeting at Nagpada junction in Mumbai on January 23, 2018, when a shoe was thrown at him, after which the situation was brought under control as police and Owaisi's party volunteers assuaged the crowd that started dispersing reported Times Of India. Additionally, in the viral video at 51 seconds time frame, after the crowd rushed on the stage, one can hear Owaisi say, ''When I took Modi's name, the person got worried, now I will speak even more," (In Hindi - 'मोदी का नाम लिया तो बेचारे को तकलीफ हुई, अब और बोलूंगा') A case was registered at Nagpada police station, Mumbai against unidentified persons, reported TOI. The same false claim was earlier debunked by The Quint in April 2019, as the same video was being shared on social media with a similar caption. The video has been shared with false claim on Facebook since March 2018.
