  • Fact Check: Ganesha song played after India-Pak Champions Trophy match? These clips aren't from Dubai These old clips are from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai and the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. Listen to Story Following India’s smashing victory against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy match on February 23 in Dubai, a video of a song praising Lord Ganesha being played in a stadium was widely shared. The video consists of two clips — one showing people enjoying a light show in a stadium, while the other featured aerial shots of a crowded stadium. Some of these viral clips featured the song “Deva Shree Ganesha” from the 2012 film “Agneepath”. Others featured a song called “Gajanan”, produced by T-Series for the occasion of Ganeshotsav. The text inside the video reads, “India jeetne k khushi pe Ganesh Aarti laga di, Pakistan wale k samne lagai apni Ganesh aarti (Ganesh Aarti was played after India won against Pakistan). India won by 6 wickets. India winner.” Its archive can be seen here. India Today Fact Check found that the two videos are unrelated to the Indo-Pak Champions Trophy match in Dubai. These are old clips from Wankhede Stadium and the Narendra Modi Stadium respectively. Our Probe Reverse-searching keyframes from the video led us to its extended version shared on Instagram by an account belonging to one Sanchit Desai. The post dated January 19 mentioned that the video of people singing “Deva Shree Ganesha” was from the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, making it clear that it predates the Champions Trophy match. We then found multiple news reports about this video clip. According to them, the Mumbai Cricket Association hosted a series of events to mark the Wankhede Stadium’s golden jubilee on January 19. Cricket legends like Sachin Tendulkar, Sunil Gavaskar, and Rohit Sharma were also present for the event, which featured performances by Indian music composer duo Ajay-Atul and singer Avadhoot Gupte, along with a laser show. The song “Deva Shree Ganesha” was composed by Ajay-Atul. Other videos of the celebration also featured people singing along with the song about Lord Ganesha at the stadium. We then reverse-searched keyframes from the second portion of the viral clip featuring aerial shots of a packed stadium. This video was also shared by the same Instagram user, Sanchit Desai, on February 13. However, in the original version, the song “Maa Tujhe Salaam” was playing in the stadium. The caption stated that the video was from Ahmedabad. In the video, “ENG” can be seen written on the scoreboard in the stadium. Using this clue, we found that the video was from the India-England ODI match on February 12 at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad. At one point in this match, England was at 175/8, which is visible on the scoreboard seen in the viral video. Thus, it’s clear both clips predate the India-Pakistan Champions Trophy match.
