  • FACT CHECK: Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Shares Image Of Festival de la Esperanza As Puerto Rico Anti-Trump Rally Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez shared an image claiming it was from an anti-Trump rally in Puerto Rico. 🇵🇷 Eyes on Puerto Rico: Tonight Puerto Ricans amassed the second largest political rally this ENTIRE cycle – behind only Harris’ 75k-person Ellipse speech. Over 50,000 Boricuas rallying for the anti-Trump, anti-corruption Alianza movement & @juandalmauPR. Political earthquake. pic.twitter.com/Ctzft9Db48 — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) November 4, 2024 Verdict: False The photo shows Festival de la Esperanza. Fact Check: Both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump held events just hours before Election Day, CNN reported. Harris focused on Pennsylvania while Trump spread his events out over three states, according to the outlet. Ocasio-Cortez posted a photo of a large crowd on X, formerly known as Twitter, and purported that is was an anti-Trump gathering in Puerto Rico. The image shows a crowd filling an entire venue with lights and tents spread throughout. Ocasio-Cortez wrote, “Eyes on Puerto Rico: Tonight Puerto Ricans amassed the second largest political rally this ENTIRE cycle – behind only Harris’ 75k-person Ellipse speech. Over 50,000 Boricuas rallying for the anti-Trump, anti-corruption Alianza movement & @juandalmauPR. Political earthquake.” The claim is inaccurate. The event, posted on YouTube, was not explicitly ant-Trump or pro-Kamala Harris. The rally is called Festival de la Esperanza and is hosted by La Alianza, a coalition of political parties that favor Puerto Rico’s independence, NBC reported. Alianza is running an effective third party candidate in the gubernatorial race, Juan Dalmau, AP News reported. Dalmau said during the event, “As a people, during the last 55 years we’ve suffered the consequences of the bipartisan red and blue, of a leadership which betrayed the faith that many Puerto Ricans had on them. Our moment to reclaim this country has arrived, to reclaim the government as ours.” Some of the speakers have shared their support for Harris in the past. Rapper Bad Bunny made an appearance and Ocasio-Cortez sent a video message to the rally attendees, according to Democracy Now!. (RELATED: Was Trump’s Name Misspelled On Ballots In Ohio?)
