  • A video circulating on social media claims that Congress leader Rahul Gandhi threatened Hindus by allegedly saying ‘once the BJP is ousted from power, Hindus will face a worse fate than in Bangladesh’. The video caption reads in Hindi: “हिन्दूओ जब बीजेपी हटेगी तब देखना … बांग्लादेश से भी बुरा हाल करूंगा तुम्हारा” [Translated it reads: “Hindus, wait and see when BJP is ousted; I will make your situation worse than Bangladesh.”] *हिन्दूओ जब बीजेपी हटेगी तब देखना* *बांग्लादेश से भी बुरा हाल करूंगा तुम्हारा* pic.twitter.com/rLUxkYYnHI — Manoj Srivastava (@ManojSr60583090) December 7, 2024 The video is being shared amid protests in India over alleged violence against Hindus in Bangladesh, portraying the Congress leader as making inflammatory remarks. FACT-CHECK When we took keyframes and checked them on Google Reverse Image Search, we found the original video of Rahul Gandhi which was a press conference held on March 15, 2024, on electoral bonds. Titled, “Electoral bonds: Narendra Modi’s extortion racket | Press Conference | Rahul Gandhi,” it was uploaded on YouTube channel of Rahul Gandhi. Here’s the official and original video: In the video, Rahul Gandhi was seen addressing several issues regarding institutions like the CBI (Central Bureau of Investigation), ED (Enforcement Directorate), and ECI (Election Commission of India), which he claimed were being misused by the BJP and RSS. In the video at timestamp 17:36 minutes, he can be heard saying these things in Hindi. Translated, it reads, “One day, the BJP government will change, and then action will be taken to ensure such things don’t happen again. These institutions need to think about their actions.” This video had been widely shared since then. There were no references to Hindus or any mention of making their situation “worse than Bangladesh” as the Bangladesh turmoil took place in August 2024, not in March 2024. The recently shared video was deliberately edited, removing the context and inserting sound to portray Rahul Gandhi as making his remarks against Hindus. Hence, the claim is totally false. Claim: A video shows Rahul Gandhi threatening Hindus that once the BJP loses power, Hindus face worst consequences. Conclusion: Totally False. The viral video is tweaked from Rahul Gandhi’s March 2024 statement on electoral bonds. Rating: Totally False —
