  • Fact Check: This video of robbers intruding a woman's house after attacking her is NOT from TN's Tirupur A video of robbers intruding a woman's house after attacking her is NOT from TN's Tirupur. The video went viral on social media with the wrong claim. Listen to Story India Today Fact Check This incident happened in Jaipur, Rajasthan. However, these alleged robbers were not able to take anything as they got frightened of the lady’s pet dog. A scary CCTV footage of some men hitting a woman and forcefully trying to enter her house is viral on social media. Many people are saying that this incident happened in Tamil Nadu’s Tirupur city. Those sharing it are warning people not to open gates for any stranger at any cost. The video begins with a woman offering a glass of water to a man standing outside her house. The man seems to be wearing a police uniform. A few moments later, the woman opens the gate and attempts to take the glass back from the man. At this point, the man suddenly begins hitting her and drags her inside the house. Within seconds, two more men climb up the stairs and enter the house. Next, somebody screams, a dog is heard barking. Soon after, all the three men are seen running away. The woman shouts ‘chor chor’ (thieves, thieves). A Twitter user posted this video with a caption in Tamil that translates to, “Tirupur woman was attacked and robbed of jewelry worth several lakhs. The robbers told her that they wanted water.” India Today’s Anti Fake News War Room (AFWA) has found that this video shows an incident that happened in Rajasthan’s capital city Jaipur. It does not have any connection with Tamil Nadu. The husband of the woman being attacked in the video as well the Jaipur police has confirmed this to India Today. AFWA probe Using keyword search, we found that many media outlets reported that this video is from the Kardhani area of Jaipur. , #Rajasthan #ViralVideo #Watch pic.twitter.com/kLUoda3Th8 — News24 (@news24tvchannel) September 14, 2022 As per the reports, this incident happened on September 13 in the Manglam City society located in Kardhani. Brijesh Kanwar, the woman seen in the video told Dainik Bhaskar that the robbers had tried to scare her using a pistol. However, they themselves got frightened when her dog mackie began barking and even bit one of them. Eventually, they ran away without taking anything. What did Brijesh's husband say about this incident? We reached out to a Jaipur based journalist Ramgopal Jat who shared the contact number of Bhanwar Singh, the husband of Brijesh Kanwar. Bhanwar confirmed to India Today that the lady seen in the viral video is indeed his wife Brijesh Kanwar. “We had installed CCTV cameras four years back. The footage revealed that the people seen in the video had also visited my house a few days back before the actual incident. At that time, only my mother was at home. They just inquired about me and said that they will visit later.” Bhanwar Singh shared with us the official press release related to this case issued by the Jaipur police. It can be seen below. What did the Jaipur police say? We contacted the Additional Commissioner of Police, Jaipur Kailash Bishnoi to get more information about the video. He confirmed to us that this incident indeed happened in the Manglam City society of Kardhani. “An FIR was registered in this case and six accused were arrested by the police.” he said. Tamil Nadu Police, on the other hand, has refuted this claim and called it ‘fake news’. Clearly, a video from Jaipur is falsely being shared as being from Tirupur, Tamil Nadu. ALSO READ | Fact Check: Can rogue chargers be used to hack your phone ?
